100_2832.jpg - This is a monument near the old church ruins in Izalco, Sonsonate, El Salvador. It was created to mark 1932 rebellion between and the military where it is said more than 20,000 people died, including the indigenous leader. There is a monument to this leader in the park (later photo). It has been noted in some of the articles I read that this event culminated the assimilation of the indigenous people of the country. This could be one reason why the language and customs of the indigenous people is largely lost.
